AgReFed brings independent organisations together to make strategic and technical decisions about agricultural data sharing.
Agriculture data covers a wide variety of data types generated from production or research relevant to agriculture and can be collected and used by farmers, agronomists, researchers and industry in the agricultural sector and beyond.
If you have an agricultural data, collection or service you would like to contribute through AgReFed, a custodian of your data will liaise with the AgReFed Data Steward to ensure that it aligns with the AgReFed Data Policy and Process Guidelines .
In order for you and your organisation or research group to be represented in decision-making, you will need to nominate one representative for the AgReFed Council and can choose to nominate a representative for the AgReFed Technical Committee.
If you would like to know more about this participation model and AgReFed FAIR and Trusted Policies see our AgReFed Participation Guidelines
AgReFed brings independent organisations together to make strategic and technical decisions about agricultural data sharing (Box et al 2019 )
The current phase
The Agricultural Research Federation (AgReFed) was funded by ARDC to help close the gap of FAIR data in agriculture. This project achieved the delivery of initial exemplar FAIR agricultural data, the establishment of core technical infrastructure, and the development of a proposed Data Stewardship and Governance Framework . See outputs of this project under Use cases and Explore the data.
The current phase* (July 2019 – October 2019)
The AgReFed Data Stewardship and Governance Framework is being enacted in collaboration with founding partners. This involves the formation of the AgReFed Council and Technical Committee, and the key role descriptions, policies and processes to achieve our collective vision.
Policies, processes and roles are being developed at the enactment phase. This AgReFed brings independent organisations together to make strategic and technical decisions about agricultural data sharing (Box et al 2019 ).
For further detail on this and future phases of AgReFed, see our AgReFed Enactment White Paper .
Documents produced in this phase are being made available under Policy and Guidelines.
The strategic direction of AgReFed will be developed by the Federation Council, documented and communicated to Members via a rolling 3-5 year Strategic Plan.
The following provides a high level outline of the proposal strategy for AgReFed. This will be for consideration and discussion by the Federation Council.
